Here's an update on my mom, as of last night aroun 10 when i last talked to my dad. In case you don't know, mom's been in the hospital in ICU for over 2 weeks. She has a bad cases of pneumonia.
Last week the doctors gave mom a CAT scan because she wasn't responding well to her medication. The CAT scan showed pneumonic fluid BEHIND her lungs. This is why is wasn't showing up on her chest xrays. So they inserted a tube to drain the fluid and drained over 2 litres right off the bat. She's been draining out ever since. But once the fluid was gone, it wasn't pressing against her lungs and she could breathe again without the help of the Crazy Breathing mask that forced the air into her lungs.
Right away she had more energy and could sit up and have conversations. She actually called me on New Years Day from the Hospital and she sounded much better, although she did sound like she had just run a marathon.
Last night Dad called and told me that mom is not getting better. She's developed an infection in her chest so they are sending her to St. Paul's hospital in Saskatoon and she'll be going in for surgery today. They're going to clean out the infection and while they're in there - clean out her right lung. As a result of the pneumonia, part of her right lung has died. While it's not life threatening, she'll never have the same lung capacity ever again.
So, this is as much up to date as i am. I don't know when exactly her surgery is, because it's not an emergency surgery. And the doctors say that the surgery could take one hour, or it could take five. So, please think of my mom today and send her your prayers if you've got 'em.
